ABSTRACT Glued Laminated Timber technology allows the construction of wooden structural components bonded with adhesive. This technology enables the creation of large-scale structures, with technological control over the material, and in a competitive industrial system. Focusing on the structural application of wood, the present study assessed the strength of bonded joints with different angles between the fibers of Pinus sp. wood, joined with a two-component polyurethane adhesive based on vegetable oils. The bonded joints were fabricated with angles of 0°, 10°, 20°, 30°, 45°, 60°, 70°, 80°, and 90°, and were evaluated for shear strength under compression and torsion. When regression analysis was performed, shear compression values showed compliance with Hankinson’s equation, with an R2 value close to 0.76. However, shear torsion results yielded R2 values near 0.17. Thus, Hankinson’s equation was unsuitable as an estimator for torsional shear strength values. The specimens showed a different mechanical response to shear when tested in compression compared to those tested in torsion.

RESUMO A tecnologia da Madeira Lamelada Colada permite a execução de peças estruturais em madeira unidas com adesivo. Com o emprego desta tecnologia é possível gerar estruturas de grande porte, com controle tecnológico do material e em sistema industrial competitivo. Com ênfase ao emprego estrutural da madeira, o presente trabalho avaliou a resistência de juntas coladas com diferentes ângulos entre as fibras da madeira de Pinus sp. e unidas com o adesivo poliuretano bicomponente a base de óleos vegetais. As juntas coladas foram confeccionadas com a formação dos ângulos de 0°, 10°, 20º, 30°, 45°, 60°, 70°, 80º e 90° e avaliadas em ruptura por esforço de cisalhamento à compressão e cisalhamento à torção. Quando realizada a análise de regressão, os valores de cisalhamento à compressão apresentaram adequação com a fórmula de Hankinson, apresentando valor de R2 próximo a 0,76. Porém, os resultados de cisalhamento sob torção apresentaram valores de R2 próximos a 0,17. Desta maneira, a fórmula de Hankinson não se mostrou propícia como estimadora dos valores de resistência para o cisalhamento à torção. Os corpos de prova apresentaram resposta mecânica diferente ao cisalhamento quando ensaiados à compressão comparativamente aos ensaiados à torção.

Resumo Um programa experimental foi desenvolvido para avaliar o atrito cisalhamento no concreto autoadensável. Três misturas de concreto foram preparadas, uma convencional e duas autoadensáveis, diferenciadas pela proporção de agregados miúdo e graúdo utilizada. Nove exemplares para ensaios do tipo push-off, contendo armadura transversal ao plano de cisalhamento, foram ensaiados para avaliar a tensão cisalhante última e os deslocamentos do plano de cisalhamento. A resistência ao cisalhamento do concreto autoadensável foi superior aos de concreto convencionalmente vibrado. Os resultados experimentais foram comparados com estimativas calculadas com equações da literatura e de normas de dimensionamento, demonstrando estas equações serem conservadoras para os dois tipos de concreto, especialmente em modelos que desconsideram a resistência à compressão do concreto.

Abstract An experimental research was developed to evaluate shear transfer in self-consolidating. Three concrete mixes were prepared, one conventional and two self-consolidating, differing on the proportion of the coarse and fine aggregate used. Nine push-off specimens, containing steel reinforcement passing through the shear plane, were tested, to evaluate the ultimate shear stress and shear plane displacements. Shear strength of self-consolidating concrete specimens were higher than conventionally vibrated concrete. The experimental results were compared to the shear strength estimated by literature and code based equations, yielding conservative results of these equations for both types of concrete, especially the models that disregard the compressive strength of concretes.

RESUMO O concreto autoadensável apresenta propriedades que aperfeiçoam o processo construtivo e a sua principal característica é a capacidade de escoamento por ação de seu peso próprio e preenchimento das formas sem a necessidade de adensamento mecânico. Entretanto, incerteza sobre sua resistência ao cisalhamento, devido à diferenças no volume e dimensões do agregado graúdo em relação ao concreto vibrado convencional, é uma das principais barreiras em sua aceitação. Dosagens de concreto autoadensável requerem geralmente a redução do volume de agregado graúdo e a adição de materiais finos, para aumento da fluidez, e a utilização de agregados graúdos com menor granulometria, o que influencia diretamente no mecanismo de engrenamento dos agregados. Neste trabalho, duas misturas de concreto, convencional e autoadensável, foram utilizadas para moldagem de corpos de prova, submetidos ao ensaio de cisalhamento direto, visando avaliar a resistência ao cisalhamento direto destes concretos. Os resultados demonstraram uma redução da resistência ao cisalhamento no concreto autoadensável, atribuída à utilização de agregado graúdo de menor granulometria e em menor volume, combinada com o aumento de teor de finos na mistura. Os resultados experimentais foram comparados com equações propostas na literatura, verificando-se que para o concreto autoadensável estas equações subestimam as resistências últimas ao cisalhamento. Assim, este trabalho contribui para a formação de um banco de dados visando estabelecer equações para estimar a resistência do concreto autoadensável.

ABSTRACT The self-consolidating concrete presents properties that improve the constructive process, it has the main characteristic of flowing under its own weight and completely filling the formwork, without the need of compaction. However, the uncertainty about its shear strength, due to the differences in coarse aggregate volume and size of this concrete compared to conventional vibrated concrete, is one of the main barriers to its acceptance. Self-consolidating concrete mixtures requires generally the reduction of coarse aggregate content and addition of fines materials to obtain flowability and the reduction of particles size directly influences the mechanism of aggregate interlock. In this work, two concrete mixtures, conventional and self-consolidating, were used for casting test specimens, submitted to the direct shear test, in order to evaluate the direct shear strength of these concretes. The results showed a reduction of the shear strength for the self-compacting concrete, attributed to the use of coarse aggregate with smaller particle size, the reduced volume of coarse aggregate and the larger fines content in the mixture. The experimental results were compared with equations proposed in the literature, demonstrating that for self-consolidating concrete these equations underestimate the ultimate shear strengths. Thus, this work contributes to the formation of a database aiming the establishment of equations to estimate self-consolidating concrete shear strength.

ABSTRACT This study aimed to present a solution in glued laminated timber to replace frame structures built in reinforced concrete and metallic structure, which are common in agricultural buildings in western Paraná such as those destined to laying poultry house building by agricultural cooperatives. Structural behavior of frames build from Araucaria angustifolia glued boards and vegetable oil-based polyurethane adhesive was evaluated. Tests were carried out to characterize wood and adhesive to obtain verification/sizing parameters. Initially, a full-scale structural project was conducted to meet standard laying poultry house specifications. Afterwards, five units of straight three-articulated frames on a 1:2.5 reduced scale were designed, built, and subjected to strength tests until breaking. They were built with a 2-meter free span and a 15° slope, suitable for using metal roof tiles. The average for structure ultimate strength was 4.14 times the design load. Structures had satisfactory mechanical performance and displacements lower than those recommended by NBR 7190 (1997) standard (ABNT). Therefore, building glued frames with Parana pine boards and vegetable oil-based glue is technically feasible.
